We are here to listen and do better.
We understand that it is our responsibility to learn our role and take ownership of the privilege we experience. It is not enough to share a few graphics and consider that our input. We are here to leverage our platform to serve our community and beyond.
We want to thank those who came out to our local protest here in Toronto. In Canada it is often said that racism is dead. It is not and this statement devalues the daily experiences of those living in our community. We urge our fellow Canadians to stand up and take note.
This is not an American issue, this is an everyone issue.
In educating ourselves we encourage others to do the same. Do not rely on our brothers and sisters from the black community to educate you. They have tried for too long and change is the responsibility of the oppressor. Listen to their experiences and their needs and let that guide your actions.
Beyond taking the time to educate ourselves on our privileges we must educate ourselves on how to leverage that privilege. We need every voice to scream together that this is not okay. This is not about a single moment in history but rather centuries of oppression. This is about wounds that cannot be healed but rather must drive us to do better.
